Its Hard to deny the fact that Glen and Robert would have to be the greatest thing to hit New Zealand's team race scene in recent history .. No other team has dominated the record books like these two !!
So how did
it start ???
Well just before the 1994 World Champs in Shanghai Glen lost his long time pitman
Paul through marriage while ,Robert lost his pilot ( Dad ) to the dreaded golf
game . The natural thing to do was team up and see how we went.
We did have
a bit of time before the Worlds to get sorted and to build some new models (Thanks
Robin) and to fine tune and adjust to each other. The transition was a short
one and we soon had some fine performances to send the New Zealand team race
scene into a spin.
The 1994 World Champs in Shanghai China was the first time in New Zealand history
that we were able to send a full Control Line team to a World Champs and we
all grabbed the opportunity with both hands. While Team "Good / Looking"
did not do as well as they wanted there were some highlights for our team. Bill
Bell in F2A finished 4th and in F2D Martin Szeto came a very credible 6th.
From here
on in Team "Good / Looking" started a mission that is now almost complete,
to have all the New Zealand Team race records
in their name. At this time there is only one to go - Class 'B' Heat time currently
held by Brian Howser at 3min 28.3
Team "Good / Looking" at their first attempt as a team in Class 'B'
at the 1998/99 Nationals claimed the final record which had stood for 16 years
and were only 5 seconds off the heat time also set some 16 years ago.
Over the years we have flown all the classes with the exception of Class'B' before the Nationals and have set goals in one event at a time and set about fine tuning and mastering each event until we got to the top. One by one the records came and as we gained more knowledge and experience the times just got better. We also swapped jobs at times to see what would happen and although a little slower in this configuration we were still very competitive and we really had a lot of fun. With the birth of NOCLASS MAC and Diesel Goodyear we flew against each other both as pilots and pitman and had a real ball which was the whole idea of this event.
Now with family
and study commitments we are taking a back seat and letting other hopefuls fine
tune there skills to seek out the success that we have enjoyed over the past
5 years or so.
The secret to our success ? The answer is quite simple.
1. Ask and
listen to what others have done.
2. Watch and understand why and how others have done it.
3. Try all sorts of ideas without prejudice.
4. Use the Internet - it does pay off !
5. Make it FUN !
6. Be best mates - Team work is the only way to success.
