Acorn South Island Stunt Series

The first of the South Island Stunt series was held in Cheviot on 8th April 2000. This was the first in a 5 round series.
The weather and distance from Christchurch combined to keep the entry low - but those who flew had an excellent days flying.
Weather : Overcast, little breeze of consequence, about 12 degree C.

F2B
Was a hard fought battle between Paul Lagan, Kevin Barnes and Bruce Turner.
Paul Lagan managed to surprise the competition by producing a Ukranian ready built stunt model - this model flys superbly with the big Retro 60 purring through the pattern.

Models Used
Paul - Ukranian - from Andrei Yatschenko. Powered by Retro
Discovery LS60, 13.5 x 6 wooden prop

Kevin - Magnum - Super Tigre 60, 3 Blade 12.5 x 5.2 carbon prop

Bruce - Profile Cardinal - OS 35, APC 11x4 prop

3 rounds were flown with Kevin & Paul being neck & neck through each of the rounds - but Pauls practise and superior model was the winning of the competition.
Bruce was behind in 3rd place flying a brand new profile Cardinal ( this looks an excellent intermediate model). With a liitle bit more practise and trimming Bruce will be solidly in for points in the ensuing rounds.
Many thanks to judges - Ken Austin, Allan Cumberland & Jon Spain

Sportsman
Saw competitors Jon Spain, Allan Cumberland and Ken Austin line up
Jon showed the superior experience to win reasonably easily using an OS 40 powered Gensis - Jon with a little bit of practice will be very difficult to beat.

Allan Cumberland used a Magum poweed by OS 40 in the first round and an OS 30 powered Twister for the subsquent rounds. This was Allan first "real" contest and a bit of nerves and inexperience showed. Never the less an exceptional effort to complete 2 rounds of Sportsman - with a bit of practise & coaching Allan will be a force in Sportsman.

Ken flew a diesel powered model ( I'm sorry but I did not get the design) and had the misfortune to crash in the Wingover of the first round - Keep going Ken we would love to see you for the Christchurch rounds

Overall
An excellent day was had by all - hopefully we will see the participation increase with the Christchurch rounds.
