The 3rd round of the South Island Stunt
series was held in North Hagley Park Christchurch on 28th July 2001.
Hagley Park in the premier park in Christchurch - and this was a first for us - there was a constant trickle of interested spectators over the afternoon. Generally good numbers with 5 flying in F2B - Paul Lagan, Kevin Barnes ,Bruce Turner, Julius Long and Rob Fenwick with 2 in Sportsman Jon Spain, Allan Cumberland and Chris Beardsley.
F2B judges was carried out by Bill Long

Weather: overcast - light flukey winds about 12 degree C - almost springlike.
I think Jon Spain wins the prize for keenest - he arrived with 2 helpers and all 3 children including one very new son who proceeded to sleep while Dad flew.
F2B
The competition continues to be extremely close with differing flying styles achieving reasonably similar scores. Overall Kevin Barnes won - with Paul very close - first win of the year for Kevin. Bruce Turners flying continues to improve & Julius was as consistent as ever. Rob Fenwick continues to be handicapped by his aircraft/motor & flew remarkably well with his model problems.
The models continue the variety again showing that F2B it is not all about the model but rather the model and pilot being in harmony.

Jon Spain is a really dominant force in
this - particularly when Jim Boyd is not around - the standard continues to
improve with particularly Allan Cumberland really improving - Allan is flying
a Derringer
with ST 51 and this model is really helping his flying. It was great to see
Chris Beardsley out flying - he flew an OS 20 powered Peacemaker.

The Standard and close results continue. An enjoyable day had by all.
