Acorn South Island Stunt Series - Round 4
2001 Series

The 4th round of the South Island Stunt series saw F2B held over Tarmac at the A&P showgrounds in Christchurch on 6th October 2001, and Sportsman flown at Merrylands on 7th October 2001.

Windy weather caused the splitting of F2B and Sportsman to different days.
This is the first time in 9 rounds that we have had cause to use our reserve day.

The best numbers we have seen flying with 5 flying in F2B, and 5 flying in Sportsman.

Of note was Bill Longs first time flying Sportsman (with great potential) and the return to control-line flying after many years of Pat Thomson also in Sportsman.

In F2B this was the first time most of us had flown over Tarmac - it was a different feeling altogether - particularly with landings - landings that we would have got away with on grass bounced badly.

The windy weather caused a lot of rethinking of flying with a number of F2B fliers using "second string models" - both Paul and Bruce did this. The wind also required a quite different flying style.

The wind also saw the first crash of the series with Bruce Turner grazing his fin on outside loops. His model was not badly damaged and he was soon in the air again with Pauls spare prop and the spray bar out of Julius's motor. This reinforced the sportsmanship aspect of this series.

The competition in both F2B and Sportsman is wide open.

F2B judges were Bill Long & Allan Cumberland. Sportsman by Kevin Barnes. Many thanks to the judges .

Weather: Saturday - strong easterly winds about 15 degree C . Sunday light southerlys about 12 degrees C
