CASH COMBAT (Club 'Slow contest)
August 19th 2000

The NOCLASS Club held it's 'show' piece once more at the Bill Bell Circle - SLOW Combat. The day was promising to be another outstanding success with about 17 entries from all over the country from as far afield Christchurch to Auckland. The weather man told us that there was a nasty southerly change on the way that was going to dump a whole lot of snow on the Central Plateau ski fields so time was of the essence!

We had a light northerly breeze and sunshine for the start of the day and this is how it stayed too!
The draw was made and the rules were explained and off we went. The bouts were rattled through with military precision thanks to the crew of helpers and CD Martin Szeto. The draw was crucial to the success or failure of many with Glen Lewis being the hardest done by being drawn against team mate Robert Bolton and then against Bryce Gibson! ( I'm allowed a to moan here! It's my report hehehe )

Just in case you missed the point about the draw and the little moan from Glen, he lost two straight to exit early. The rounds went bye quickly and a few of the big boys dropped out early and a few upsets were handed out. After three rounds we had a break for lunch as the threat from the weather had still not eventuated.

The afternoon saw some great flying and Robert Bolton was marching on unbeaten and Alistair Boys with an early loss was looking good along with Club President Bryce Gibson. After the early good showing poor Robert then went out with two straight losses! Nerves I think got the better of him yet again. At the business end of the day it came down to Alistair and Bryce and with the two model rule in force Bryce was forced to use his only remaining model which had suffered a fuel leak of some kind and had little foam left to support the leading edge so the model flew around a bit like a sea gull flapping it's wings. Despite Bryce's best efforts, Alistair came out the winner and was well deserved having flown the most bouts of the day.

Alistair was handed his prize money for first place and his face told the story of his days efforts. Bryce was runner up with Robert in third. I don't have all the results as yet but when I do I will post them here.
A big thanks to all who helped run the day so well and also to the new faces that came to give it a go including some 'R oblique slash C' people! An awesome day was finished off with a massive Barbecue and a few tinnies.
Once more a big thanks to Bill Bell for the use of his backyard!
